Walks And Walking in the Cotswolds - Free Cotswolds walks and walking routes

Walks And Walking in the Cotswolds - Free Cotswolds walks and walking routes

Walks In The Cotswolds
Here are two very good walks in the Cotswolds
This was the first of 2 walks in the Cotswolds. We were staying in Corse Lawn, just outside of Cheltenham, and I mapped out a 13 mile circular walking route from our barn at Slad Farm to the nearby village of Tirley and on to The Haw where I joined the River Severn all the up to Odda’s Chapel arching across the Cotswolds countryside to join the disused Coombe Hill Canal back to the River Severn and home.
This was the second of 2 walks planned during our family holiday in the Cotswolds. I mapped out a 14 mile section of the Cotswolds Way starting at the metal gates of Cleeve Hill following the excellent Cotswolds Way way markers all the way to Dowdeswell Wood Reservoir, the Devil's Chimney and the National Trust Crickley Hill taking me just over 5 hours to complete.

Walks And Walking - Epping Forest Walks Knighton Wood And Lords Bushes

Walks And Walking - Epping Forest Walks Knighton Wood And Lords Bushes

Walks And Walking - Epping Forest Walks Knighton Wood And Lords Bushes - Knighton Lake
Lords Bushes and Knighton Wood form an ‘island’ of Epping Forest located in Buckhurst Hill and surrounded by houses. Together they cover some 53 hectares of mature woodland located on the eastern edge of the Epping Forest ridge. A number of water-filled hollows on the higher ground indicate the location of former gravel workings, the largest of which have been landscaped into attractive ponds.
Glacial sands and gravels cover the western segment and the ground slopes gently down onto the London Clay towards the east. Several small streams emerge at the junction of the gravels and the clay and flow eastwards towards the River Roding.

The National Trust Special Places Project has asked some famous faces to share their love by uploading photographs of places that mean the most to them including the actress Kim Cattrall, actor Jude Law, chefs The Fabulous Baker Brothers and England and British Lions rugby ace Austin Healey to name but a few.

"I'd encourage everyone to enter. It's a great way to get up close and personal with trees, woods and nature and more importantly appreciate their value." - Simon King
Between now and the 31st July all you have to do is visit a wood, take a picture, upload it to the VisitWoods website and you will be in with a chance of winning a prize. There are 4 main categories; forests and people, all creatures great and small, nature's playground and ancient woods and modern wonders.
Forests & People - Sponsored by WWF
This category celebrates our connection with forests. Because they’re our playgrounds, our inspiration - and they need our protection. WWF is working hard to protect forests across the globe from the many threats they face - from illegal logging to climate change. As well as being a home to wildlife, forests are vital to our planet’s health and fundamental to our well-being. Forests also provide food, shelter, fuel and a source of income to 1.6 billion people in poverty.
All Creatures Great & Small - Sponsored by DoubleTree by Hilton
This category is all about the wildlife you find on your woodland trips from birds and bees to deer and dormice.
Bringing two great "tree brands" together in a community outreach effort, DoubleTree supports VisitWoods to develop a series of natural education initiatives that encourage and inspire people across the UK to connect with and appreciate the importance of woodlands and their wildlife. This picture is of a Fallow Deer in Epping Forest I took on a walk to Gifford Wood.

Nature's Playground - Sponsored by nature detectives
This category is for budding photographers aged 14 and under – capture your wild adventures and exciting discoveries out in the woods. Explore secret hiding places, nooks and crannies. Experiment with different perspectives by crawling on your belly or climbing up high. Show off your favourite tree or an unforgettable wildlife sighting, or simply show us how you, your friends and family enjoy playing in the woods.
Ancient Woods & Modern Wonders - Sponsored by the Woodland Trust
Ancient woodland is home to a wealth of wildlife and is the UK equivalent to rainforests. We’re looking for images of woods old or new demonstrating how they create our scenery and landscapes for all generations to enjoy.
